Solitaire Coaches’ Points Challenge Update
Week 22
Sunday February 14 – Saturday March 2, 2013

SCPC Official Stats:
14 games and 1 new team this week
382 total games, 193 different teams, 18 owners/coaches
9 bowl eligible teams

With just fourteen games entered in the SCPC this week it was another opportunity for me to be more detailed in my update. Each of the fourteen games is summarized below in the order they were reported. Game summaries are followed by a chart that details each team that earned points during the week and how their ranking was affected.

Based on the outcome of this week’s fourteen games an amazing 50 teams gained points. Of the 193 SCPC only 42 kept the same ranking from last week; all of which are near either the top or bottom of the rankings. All that from just fourteen games, and here they are.

In Mantareydre’s Helmet Row Show the Colorado Buffalos defeated the newly registered Arkansas Razorbacks 14 – 0. Colorado earned 7 points with the win and are now 2-1 18. Arkansas got just 3 points for a 0-1 3 mark. Miami gets two QWBP from the game as well.

In Chris LeMay’s World League of American Professional Football the Oilers won over the Chiefs 19 – 10. The Oilers are now 3-1 39 with their only loss to Cleveland. The Chiefs are one loss away from being eliminated from postseason eligibility at 3-4 51.

In Ray Sugg’s Dream Season the undefeated 1977 Dallas Cowboys met the also undefeated 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite playing up two divisions the Bucs came away stull undefeated by a final of 24 – 21. Dallas drops to 3-1 27 while the Bucs go to 4-0 36.

The once defeated 1985 Chicago Bears faced the also once defeated 1989 San Francisco 49ers in a second Dream Season contest. The heavier Bears (Unlimited) pulled out a 21 – 14 win over the 49ers (4.0 Inclusive). San Francisco’s Dream Season is in jeopardy at 2-2 23 while Chicago has rebounded from their week 1 loss to Green Bay to be at 3-1 27. The Bears should be getting another shot at the Packers soon.

The action now turns to Mike Velikey’s North Jersey Legends Miniature Football League where the Charleston Pirates took care of business against the Seattle Seahawks. Mike noted that ‘My Seahawks suck!’, and he surely was correct since the Pirates now are at a not so impressive 2-3 29 while the Seahawks are at a near SCPC low of 0-4 12. The Orlando Thunder benefit from the Pirate win, but not as much as the Arizona Cardinals who have defeated Charleston twice. The Pirate win gives Arizona four QWBP.

Speaking of teams you have that suck Mike, what about the West Virginia Cougars now 0-5 21 after allowing the Tennessee Titans, 5-3 60, to score late and officially eliminate them from postseason eligibility? The Titans, now one game shy of the six required wins for post season, have losses to Denver, Houston, and Omaha who all receive two QWBP with the Titan win.

Ed Morgans had an interesting game in Ed’s College Football Association in which the TCU Horned Frogs defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 20 – 13. LT ran for 132 and 2 and caught a pass for the Horned Frogs’ third score. Meanwhile Bam Morris set an ECFA record with ten receptions. Wow! What really is interesting though is that both teams are now 3-3. The Frogs now have 45 total SCPC points while the Red Raiders have 44. The Frogs should be rated more highly though since their three losses have come to three of ECFA’s top teams in Arkansas 4-1 50, SMU 3-3 43, and Baylor 4-2 59 all of whom get two QWBP for the TCU win. The Red Raiders’ also lost to Arkansas, but they let one get away against A & M 2-3 37.

More NJLMFL action came pouring in late in the week.

The luck of the Irish came up big as the Boston Shamrocks improved to 4-3 49 with a 21-13 win over the San Jose Breakers 2-3 28. Mike reported that it was a strong game for the Shamrocks. The top ranked 49ers, and the highly ranked Giants and Vikings all earn QWBP from the Boston win.

Apparently the 49ers have the luck of the Irish as well. With all ten games played for SCPC scoring the 49ers are relying strictly on QWBP to keep their hold on the #1 ranking. An error was found in their QWBP formula in their early season win over the Shamrocks. It was incorrectly linked to the Sharks instead of the Shamrocks. The correction netted San Francisco four additional QWBP that they should have had all along.

Virginia Brigade took advantage of two Pittsburgh Steeler turnovers to pull off a huge upset by the score of 20 – 7. The win evens Virginia’s record at 2-2 and picks them up eight QWBP for a total of 30 SCPC points. Pittsburgh’s SB56 quest comes to an early end with an overall SCPC standing of 4-3 69. The Hartford Renegades and the New York Jets also benefit from Virginia’s big win with QWBP.

The Los Angeles Rams also took advantage of two turnovers as they rolled to an easy victory over Detroit 24 – 10. The Rams improve to 3-2 38 while the Lions, at 1-5 24, are officially eliminated from postseason bowl eligibility. The Vikings and Warriors reap QWBP benefits with the Ram victory.

This is one of the most difficult games I’ve had to report out of all the SCPC games. Chris LeMay obviously had his board set incorrectly in order to get the Packers to destroy the Vikings 36 – 3. The Vikings, after suffering one of the worst losses in SCPC history, have now lost two in a row after winning four straight following an opening loss for a record of 4-3 56. The Packers become the second SCPC team to play out the ten game maximum, but have a mark of 5-5 74, leaving them one game shy of bowl eligibility. The Chiefs, Raiders, Cowboys, Jets, and Colts were the five teams to defeat Green Bay. All are rewarded with extra QWBP.

The Dream Season combined NFC Central-Western Division wrapped up week four in Dream Season play with a pair of late week games being reported.

The front running Green Bay Packers took care of the St. Louis Rams 21 – 7. The Packers go to 4-0 44 and the Rams are now 3-1 28. Since the Packers are undefeated no other teams get QWBP from the contest.

In the second DSEFL contest the once beaten each Redskins and Saints battled for their Dream Season lives. The heavier Redskins prevailed 21 – 14. The Saints drop to 2-2 21 and will be lucky to see the next round now. Washington, now 3-1 29, await their rematch with Dallas who earns two QWBP as a result of the Washington win.

Week 22 SCPC action wraps up in the WMLMF where the Battlin’ Bozos of Battle Creek were three points better than the Canadian Sasquatch, 31 – 28. Both teams are now 3-2. The Bozos have a slight edge in SCPC points after the win 35 – 31. The Rams and the Zombies have defeated the Bozos earning them each two additional QWBP.

There you have it. That’s how all fourteen games were reported and how they affected each team’s record and total points. Very little movement was seen in the top rankings and no more teams earned bowl eligibility again this week, but that just means that we are ever closer to huge changes. The Dream Season by Ray Sugg is a few short games away from seeing teams break the top ten and become bowl eligible. Some dream rematches should also be on tap soon. Mike Velikeys SB56 tournament will hit the next round soon too putting more top ranked teams on the electric gridiron. A few other coaches have been quite lately, but will be feeling the pressure because an idle team is falling team in the SCPC.

Here’s how all the week’s action affected each team that earned points.
