Week 1 Recap
Week one of the 2010 HPBL had rookies playing tough and the veterans knocking the rust off. The 49ers shot out of the gate fast. The Steelers barely hold on to win. The Colts got an opening day win. The Cowboys not only showed up for week 1 but they also got a win. Despite the Bears loss to the Cowboys they moved the ball on offense very well. The Saints ground game looks to be tough. The Ravens have a go to man in Jamal Lewis. The Jets need some offensive fire power but their defense didn’t play too bad.
Game of the Week: 49ers @ Ravens
The game of the week for week one lived up to the hype. The scoring went back and forth. The 49ers ground game looked to be dominant as they racked up 260 yards as a team. Dexter Carter took week one MVP honors with 202 rushing yards and (2) touchdown’s as well as 20 receiving yards and another touchdown. The Ravens had an MVP player as well in Jamal Lewis who carried the offense all night. Lewis had over 180 yards of offense including 112 receiving yards and a touchdown. He scored on a run, a reception and a kickoff return. In the end the 49ers held on to win in 28-21.
Colts @ Jets:
Codie Bogus got a week one win in NY last night as Peyton Manning ran the Colts offense to almost perfection. James Monroe the unlikely hero ran the ball for 117 yards. Peyton Manning ran for (2) touchdowns and tossed a third to Dallas Clark on their way to a 21-7 win over the Jets.
Saints @ Steelers:
This game was only being played because both the Saints and Steelers opponents could not make it last night. The Steelers offense struggled early and the game was tied 3-3 at the half. Reggie Bush racked up 119 yards of offense on (11) carries and scored a touchdown for the Saints. Ben Roethlisberger went 9 for 12 for 132 yards and a touchdown. On the final play of the game the Saints were down 17-10 and (88) yards away from the end zone. An unlikely handoff to #44 the fullback and Evans took it (88) yards for the touchdown!! The Saints went for (2) and the win but Reggie Bush was stuffed for an (8) yard loss and the Steelers held on to win 17-16.
Bears @ Cowboys:
The Bears are back and they have an offense! They need a kicker but their offense was moving the ball well last night. For the Cowboys they are what the experts call the “sexy pick” this year to make some noise in the NFC. The game opened with two touchdowns on two opening drives by the Cowboys and Bears but Chicago missed the PAT so it was 7-6 Cowboys. That score would hold until the forth quarter. The Bears opened the second half with a (13) play drive that ended with a missed field goal. The Cowboys went to their main back Emmitt Smith (ever heard of him?) who took it (51) yards for the touchdown and a 14-6 win on the night. Emmitt racked up 116 yards and two touchdowns on the night. The Bears had a very balanced offence with no one player dominating but they had well over 100 yards of total offense.
